Shizue: An American Story

We are designing a set for a mobile opera called Shizue: An American Story. Presented by Portland Opera to Go!, Shizue is the second youth opera in their Our Oregon Series which highlights the experiences of Oregonians through a variety of perspectives. Shizue: An American Story was composed by Kenji Oh with a libretto by Dmae Lo Roberts and is about the life of the poet and artist Shizue Iwatsuki.  Shizue, like thousands of other Japanese Americans, experienced both hope and horror as events brought her from the fruitful fields of Hood River, OR to the tragedy of American concentration camps.
