We are excited to announce that our proposal for the Cossitt Library Public Art in downtown Memphis TN has been selected. We will be working closely with UAC (Urban Arts Commission) as we move forward with the design phase. We are excited to work with the City of Memphis, a city known for its art – music making, innovation and creation. As we researched early blues makers we were inspired by W. C. Handy (Musician, composer, publisher, chronicler and father of the blues and 1909’s “Memphis Blues”) who we discovered was deeply influenced by the music of the natural world. The sculpture we proposed for the Library Public Art is deeply inspired by the these early fantastical memories of the library and popup books merged with the inventive and creative spirit of the mocking- bird ( Tennessee state bird).
